The present invention provides a method of inhibiting glucose metabolism deterioration in a mammal by administering a substituted aminopyrimidine having the Formula Image wherein R1, R2, and R3 are, independently, hydrogen, halogen, C1-C4 alkoxy, C1-C4 alkylthio, C1-C4 alkyl, or C3-C5-cycloalky; R4 is hydrogen, formyl, acetyl, propionyl or butyryl; provided that R1, R2 and R3 are not all hydrogen at the same time; or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or solvate thereof.
