The present invention relates to pharmaceutical compositions comprising a .beta. (1-3) .beta. (1-4) glucan and a pharmaceutically active agent or a botanical extract. A method to extract and purify cereal .beta.-glucan is also described. The high purity of the cereal .beta.-glucan obtained according to the present invention allows for the preparation of clear, colourless viscous liquid preparations. These liquid preparations are stable to gelling effects when kept at ambient temperatures and low ash concentrations, and can be used to prepare the pharmaceutical compositions of the present invention.
L'invention concerne des compositions pharmaceutiques contenant un .beta.(1-3) .beta.(1-4) glucane et un principe actif sur le plan pharmaceutique ou un extrait végétal. L'invention concerne également un procédé d'extraction et de purification du .beta.-glucane de céréale. La haute pureté de ce glucane obtenue selon cette invention permet de préparer des préparations liquides visqueuses incolores et limpides. Ces préparations liquides sont stables aux effets de gélification lorsqu'ils sont conservés à des températures ambiantes et que leurs teneurs en cendres sont faibles. Ces préparations liquides peuvent être utilisées en vue de préparer les compositions pharmaceutiques de la présente invention.
