Disclosed is a pharmaceutical for use in the protection of a motor nerve in a patient suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, which comprises a combination of (a) (2R)-2-propyloctanoic acid or a salt thereof and (b) a therapeutic agent for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis such as riluzole. A pharmaceutical comprising a combination of (a) (2R)-2-propyloctanoic acid in an oral dose amount of about 1200 mg per dose at a dose frequency of once a day and (b) riluzole in an oral dose amount of about 50 mg per dose at a dose frequency of twice a day is useful for the protection of a motor nerve in a patient suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. The pharmaceutical can also prevent the decrease in an inhalation/respiratory function associated with the progression of the disease condition and improve the survival rate in the patient.
La présente invention concerne un produit pharmaceutique destiné à être utilisé pour protéger un nerf moteur chez un patient atteint de sclérose latérale amyotrophique. Ledit produit comprend une combinaison (a) d~acide (2R)-2-propyloctanoïque ou de l~un de ses sels et (b) d~un agent thérapeutique de la sclérose latérale amyotrophique tel que le riluzole. Un produit pharmaceutique comprenant une combinaison (a) d~acide (2R)-2-propyloctanoïque sous une forme posologique orale d~environ 1200 mg par dose, à une fréquence d~administration d~une dose par jour, et (b) de riluzole sous une forme posologique orale d~environ 50 mg par dose, à une fréquence d~administration de deux doses par jour, s'avère utile pour protéger un nerf moteur chez un patient atteint de sclérose latérale amyotrophique. Le produit pharmaceutique peut également empêcher la dégradation de la fonction inhalatoire/respiratoire associée à la progression de la maladie et améliorer le taux de survie des patients.
