The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical formulation for intranasal administration comprising morphine or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof at a pH from about 3.0 to about 7Ø Such formulations provide enhanced absorption of morphine or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof. In one embodiment, the present invention provides a method for eliciting an analgesic or anesthetic response in a mammal which includes nasally administering a therapeutically effective amount of morphine or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof at a pH from about 3.0 to about 7Ø
L'invention concerne une formulation pharmaceutique destinée à une administration intra-nasale et comprenant de la morphine ou un sel de celle-ci acceptable sur le plan pharmacologique, et dont le pH est compris entre environ 3,0 et environ 7,0. De telles formulations permettent une absorption accrue de la morphine ou de sels de celle-ci, acceptables sur le plan pharmacologique. Dans un mode de réalisation, l'invention concerne un procédé de déclenchement d'une réponse analgésique ou anesthésique, chez un mammifère, ce procédé consistant à administrer par voie nasale une dose efficace sur le plan thérapeutique de morphine ou d'un sel de celle-ci, acceptable sur le plan pharmacologique, dont le pH se situe entre environ 3,0 et 7,0.
