The present invention relates to a non water-soluble pharmaceutical carrier gel which adheres to mucosal surfaces and body tissues upon application and forms a film, providing protection and delivery of pharmaceutical to the site of application, surrounding body tissues, and bodily fluids. The gel comprises a volatile or diffusing nonaqueous solvent and at least one non water-soluble alkyl cellulose or hydroxyalkyl cellulose. A bioadhesive polymer may also be added. The gel provides an effective residence time with ease of use. The residence time may be adjusted by adding a component which acts to adjust the kinetics of erodability of the carrier.
Gel excipient pharmaceutique insoluble dans l'eau, qui adhère aux surfaces des muqueuses et des tissus de l'organisme après application et forme un film offrant un effet de protection et permettant de délivrer un produit pharmaceutique au site d'application et entourant les tissus et liquides organiques. Le gel se compose d'un solvant non aqueux volatil ou diffuseur, et d'au moins une alkyle ou hydroxyalkyle cellulose insoluble à l'eau, auxquels on peut encore ajouter un polymère bioadhésif. Ce gel possède un temps de séjour efficace et est facile d'emploi. Le temps de séjour peut être modifié par l'adjonction d'un composant agissant de manière à modifier la cinétique d'érosion de l'excipient.
