2050586 9011753 PCTABS00002 A composition for parenteral nutrition consists of an oil-in-water emulsion of a lipid mixture of which about 10 to about 30 weight percent consists of oil from the genus Borago and contains gamma-linolenic acid in the form of triglycerides in an amount of about 2 to about 10 weight percent of the lipid mixture. The emulsion also contains L-carnitine in an amount of about 0.1 to about 0.5 g per 100 g of the lipid mixture, and an aqueous phase. The composition is specially suitable for nutrition of humans for biosynthesis of cell membranes and prostanoids, especially infants.
