ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A pharmaceutical preparation for the treatment of ulcers includes the principal sapogenin of the roots and rhizomes of the Helleborus species and a pharmaceutically acceptable diluent or carrier. Such principal sapogenin is extracted from the roots and rhizomes by treating the roots and rhizomes with an enzyme selected from the group consisting of cellulase, hemicellulase and .beta.-glucosidase.
