Abstract The present invention provides a suppository base composition for rectal administration comprising a fatty or olly base and polyoxyethylene cholesterol ether and/or polyoxyethylene hydrogenated cholesterol ether. The suppository base is suitable for pharmaceutlcal preparatlons adapted for rectal administration containing a compound having a .beta.-lactam ring, e,g. penicillins and cephalosporins.
