ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: An excipient for a composition comprises a pharmacolo- gically and toxicologically inert substance in granular form, the granules being coated with a pharmacologically and toxicologically inert polymer, copolymer or mixture of polymers and/or copolymer, the coating being insoluble or sparingly soluble in aqueous media. The preferred coating is methyl acrylate methyl methacrylate copolymer. Pharmaceutical compositions in tablet form incorpora- ting the excipient have the porperty of sustained release of the pharmacologically active ingredient.
