A phase array antenna is monitored by applying to each element of the array in turn a signal known characteristics, detecting the signal output from the selected element as a result of the applied known signal, and comparing the detected signal with the applied signal whereby to monitor changes in the applied signal due to the signal path. The detection is preferably carried out using a single monitoring unit in the near-field of each antenna element. Alternatively the detection is carried out using a single source of applied signals a number of individual monitoring units one for each element of the array, and a switching device for selecting the element of the array to be monitored.
Une antenne réseau à commande de phase est surveillée par l'application d'un signal à caractéristiques connues à chacun des éléments du réseau tour à tour, par la détection du signal produit par l'élément sélectionné sous l'effet de l'application du signal connu, et par la comparaison du signal détecté avec le signal appliqué afin de surveiller les modifications du signal appliqué dues au trajet du signal. Dans la concrétisation privilégiée de l'invention, la détection est effectuée au moyen d'une seule unité de surveillance placée dans le champ proche de chaque élément d'antenne. Dans d'autres concrétisations, la détection peut être effectuée au moyen d'une seule source de signaux appliqués, d'une unité de surveillance individuelle pour chaque élément du réseau, et d'un dispositif de commutation servant à sélectionner l'élément du réseau à surveiller.
