ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A phase locked loop circuit includes a reference signal oscillator, a voltage controlled oscillator, a pro- grammable divider connected to the output of the voltage controlled oscillator, a phase comparator supplied with both output signals from the reference signal oscillator and the programmable divider to produce an error signal in response to the phase difference therebetween and a low pass filter having a time constant circuit for receiving the error signal to produce a DC control signal which is sup- plied to the voltage controlled oscillator so as to lock the phase thereof into that of the reference signal. A damping factor control circuit is coupled to the low pass filter to control a time constant of the time constant circuit in response to the DC control signal.
