ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A phase synchronizing circuit for reproducing a synchronizing carrier wave from an N-phase carrier signal which is phase shift keyed (PSK) is disclosed, N being equal to 2n where n is a positive integer. The circuit includes a voltage controlled oscillator and an N-phase demodulator supplied with the modulated signal and the output signal of the voltage controlled oscillator. The output of the demodulator is supplied to a code converter of the form N-ary (e.g. N-ary is binary when n is 1). The output of the N-ary code converter is supplied to a first input terminal of an N-phase modulator. A first delay circuit is installed between the modulated signal input terminal of the demodulator and a second input terminal of the modula- tor. A phase detector has a first input terminal supplied with the modulator output. A second delay circuit is installed between the output terminal of the voltage controlled oscillator and a second input terminal of the phase detector. A low-pass filter is connected between the output terminal of the phase detector and the input terminal of the voltage controlled oscil- lator. A variable phase shifter is connected in one of the paths between the modulated signal input terminal and the second input terminal of the modulator, between the output terminal of the voltage controlled oscillator and the second input terminal of the phase detector, and between the output terminal of the phase modulator and the first input terminal of the phase detector. The carrier wave phases may be varied by changing conversion states of the code converter.
