ABSTRACT PHENOL ALKYLATION PROCESS A process of ortho-alkylating arylhydroxides, e.g., phenol, by passing a mixture of arylhydroxide, olefin and an inert hydrocarbon diluent in the liquid phase through a bed of activated alumina at an elevated temperature and pressure. Conversion and selectivity is improved over that obtained without the diluent.
