ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE New phenyl-alkane-carboxylic acid derivatives and their process of preparation are provided of formula (I):- Image (I) wherein A is a radical selected from the group con- sisting of unsubstituted aryl, substituted aryl, unsubstituted aralkyl, substituted aralkyl, unsubstituted arylvinyl or substituted arylvinyl, the substituents in said substituted radicals being selected from hydroxy, halogen, trifluoromethyl, alkyl, alkylthio, alkoxy, alkenyloxy, alkoxyalkoxy, alkyl- substituted amino, aryloxy or alkoxy -substituted aryloxy, or A is an aryloxyalkyl, arylthioalkyl radical, unsubstituted heterocyclic ring system or substituted heterocyclic ring system, substituted by halogen, alkyl or alkoxy, Y is a valency bond or an unbranched or branched lower alkylene radical containing 1 to 3 carbon atoms, X is a straight or branched, saturated or unsaturated divalent aliphatic hydrocarbon radical containing 2 to 8 carbon atoms, there being at least 2 carbon atoms between the benzene ring and the carboxyl group and R is a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl radical: and the physio- logically compatible salts, esters and amides thereof: the new phenyl-alkane-carboxylic acid derivatives have hypoglycaemic and/or hypolipidaemic properties.
