ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention relates to new derivatives of L- or DL-phenylglycine of the formula Image (II) where R1 is a hydroxy or lower alkoxy group; R2 is a hydrogen atom or a hydroxyphenyl or lower alkyl group, and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof. The new compounds are prepared using classic protecting and coupling techniques of amino-acid chemistry, and are disclosed as being useful in treating diseases and conditions characterised by reduced blood flow, oxygen availabability or carbohydrate metabolism in the cardiovascular system.
