ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: Phenylpropanolamines of the formula I Image I where R1 is hydrogen or halogen, R2 is hydrogen, a saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon radical of not more than 15 carbon atoms or phenyl, R3 is hydrogen, a saturated or un- saturated hydrocarbon radical of not more than 3 carbon atoms, C1-C4-acyl, benzoyl, C2-C4-carbalkoxy or a carb- oxamido group -CO-NHR6, where R6 is C1-C4-alkyl, R4 is hydrogen or halogen, R5 is dimethylamino, piperidino or pyrrolidino and X is oxygen or sulfur, their salts with physiologically tolerated acids and their preparation are described. These compounds are useful for treating psycho- logical illnesses, especially depression.
