Case 153-5297 IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO ORAGANIC COMPOUNDS Abstract of the Disclosure A composition (hereinafter defined as a stabilising composition) suitable as a processing stabiliser for a polymeric substrate comprising: a) 50-99.9 X by weight of one or more phosphonitcs of formula I (hereinafter defined as component I) Image (I) b) 0.1-50 % by weight of a phosphite of formula II (hereinafter defined as component II) Image (II) in which m is 0 or 1; n is 0 or 1; Y is 0, -S-, -CH(R5) or Image where R5 is hydrogen, C1-8alkyl or COOR6 where R6 is C1-8alkyl; each R-O-, independently, is a group derived from an aliphatic, alicyclic or aromatic alcohol containing one to three OH groups; provided that no two -OH groups are positioned to be able to form a P-containing ring; (hereinafter defined as the monovalent Case 153-5297 significances of R-O-); or both groups R-O- together form a group derived from an aliphatic, alicyclic or aromatic alcohol containing at least two OH groups of which two are in such a position that they can form a cyclic group with a single phosphorus atom (hereinafter defined as the divalent significances of R-O-); R3-O- has a monovalent significance of R-O-; and each R1-O- independently is a group derived from an aliphatic, alicyclic or aromatic alcohol containing one to three OH groups; provided that no two -OH groups are positioned to be able to form a P-containing ring (hereinafter defined as the monovalent significances of R1-O-); or both groups R1-O- together form a group derived from an aliphatic, alicyclic or aromatic alcohol containing at least two OH groups of which two are in such a position that they can form a cyclic group with a single phosphorus atom (hereinafter defined as the divalent significances of R1-O-); with the provisos that l) the compound of formula I is not tetrakis (2,4-di-tert.-butyl phenyl)-biphenylene diphosphonite; and preferably 2) that at least one group R-O- and at least one group R1-O- is a group derived from a phenol containing at least one sterically hindered group in the 2-position. These compositions are useful as processing stabilisers for polymeric materials. 3700/DM/KC/No
