ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION A novel process, the products produced and their use in rendering rayon flame retardant. The process comprises treating partial esters of phosphonitrilic chloride with a tertiary amine base to form a polymeric phosphazene. The condensed polymeric phosphazenes so produced are very efficacious in rendering rayon flame resistant and they have excellent retention during the process of spinning rayon fibers and in subsequent laundering of fabrics produced from the flame-resistant rayon.
