Methods and compounds for the measurement in vivo of oxygen in living tissue. The compounds preferably comprise a chromophore which is capable of absorbing an amount of energy and subsequently releasing the energy as phosphorescent light. In preferred embodiments, the chromophore has an absorption band which is at a wavelength in the near infrared window of living tissue and the phosphorescence is quenched by molecular oxygen according to the Stern-Volmer relationship.
L'invention concerne des procédés et des composés permettant de mesurer in vivo l'oxygène dans des tissus vivants. Ces composés comprennent de préférence un chromophore qui peut absorber une quantité d'énergie et libérer par la suite cette énergie sous forme d'une lumière phosphorescente. Dans des modes préférés de réalisation, le chromophore comporte une bande d'absorption qui se trouve au niveau d'une longueur d'onde située dans la fenêtre des infrarouges proches du tissu vivant, et l'intensité de la phosphorescence est réduite par l'oxygène moléculaire selon la relation Stern-Volmer.
