The present invention relates to compositions comprising pharmaceutically- acceptable carriers and a phosphonocarboxylate, or a pharmaceutically-acceptable salt thereof, having a structure according to formula (I), wherein (A) (1) A is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen; halogen ; SR1; R2SR1; amino; hydroxy; and substituted or unsubstituted C1-C8 alkyl; (2) B is (a) NH2; etc. or (B) A and B are covalently linked together with C* to form a monocyclic or bicyclic ring having structure .alpha.. The present invention further relates to novel phosphonocarboxylates and pharmaceutically-acceptable salts thereof. Finally, the present invention relates to methods for treating or preventing pathological conditions characterized by abnormal calcium and phosphate metabolism in humans or other mammals. This method comprises administering to a human or other mammal in need of such treatment of a safe and effective amount of a compound or composition of the present invention.
La présente invention se rapporte à des compositions comprenant des excipients pharmaceutiquement acceptables ainsi qu'un phosphonocarboxylate, ou un sel pharmaceutiquement acceptable de celui-ci, présentant une structure répondant à la formule (I), dans laquelle (A) (1) A est choisi dans le groupe composé d'hydrogène; halogène; SR1; R2SR1; amino; hydroxy; et C1-C8alkyle substitué ou non substitué; (2) B représente (a) NH2; etc. ou (B) A et B présentant une liaison covalente avec C* pour former un noyau mono- ou bi-cyclique présentant la structure alpha. La présente invention se rapporte en outre à de nouveaux phosphonocarboxylates et à des sels pharmaceutiquement acceptables de ceux-ci. Enfin, la présente invention se rapporte à des procédés de traitement ou de prévention d'états pathologiques caractérisés par des anomalies du métabolisme du calcium et du phosphate chez les humains ou d'autres mammifères. Le procédé consiste à administrer à un humain ou d'autres mammifères nécessitant un tel traitement une dose sûre et efficace d'un composé ou d'une composition de la présente invention.
