An apparatus, for simulta- neous or selective treatment of an area of the skin and adjacent subcutaneous structure of a pa- tient utilizing photo energy and therapeutic heat, which includes a plurality of juxtaposed diodes. Each diode has a longitudinal axis and is capable of projecting a non-coherent cone of light which overlaps the cone of light from each juxtaposed diode so that the light completely covers the treat- ment area. A flexible pad or ap- pliance holds the diodes in jux- taposed position with each other. Each is held in contact with the skin and has a longitudinal axis which is in substantially perpen- dicular relationship to the skin. A resistor heats each diode, which acts as a heat sink, so that the treatment area of the skin and the adjacent subcutaneous struc- ture of the mammal receive light and thermal treatment simulta- neously. An adjustable control varies the light intensity of the diodes and the amount of heat generated by the resistor in a selected and controlled manner. Indicia is provided for visibly indicating the setting of the control means so that repetitive treatment is possible. A grid system can be established over at least a portion of the surface of the skin of a population of patients to establish a database for establishing treatment parameters for future patients.

Chacune des diodes qui présente un axe longitudinal peut projeter un cône de lumière non cohérente qui chevauche les cônes de lumière des diodes voisines de façon à ce que la lumière recouvre l'intégralité de la région à traiter. Une plaque (ou un dispositif souple) assure la juxtaposition des diodes qui sont maintenues en contact avec la peau et dont l'axe longitudinal lui est sensiblement perpendiculaire. Les diodes chauffées par des résistances constituent des puits thermiques, si bien que la peau et la structure sous-cutanée voisine reçoivent simultanément la chaleur et la lumière. L'intensité lumineuse, ainsi que la chaleur produite par les résistances, sont réglables. Des repères visuels indiquent les positions de réglage, ce qui permet des traitements répétitifs. Un système de grille mis en place sur au moins une partie de la peau d'un groupe de patients permet d'établir une base de données en vue du traitement de nouveaux patients.
