Novel substituted diaryl ketones, photopolymerization compositions including the compounds, and methods using the same are disclosed. Polymerization of compositions which include the compounds of the invention may be activated by irradiating the composition with ultraviolet light using conventional techniques and radiation sources to give greatly improved cure speeds. The compounds of the invention also show a significantly elevated level of reactivity at a narrow wavelength band, with a peak emission wavelength at or near 308 nm. Because of the increased level of activity, the photoinitiator can be used in considerably lower amounts.

L'invention concerne des diarylcétones substitués, des compositions de photopolymérisation et des procédé dans lesquels ils sont utilisés. Des compositions de polymérisation qui contiennent les composés de l'invention peuvent être activés par irradiation de la composition par la lumière ultraviolette au moyen de techniques et de source de rayonnement classiques permettant d'atteindre des vitesses de durcissement sensiblement accrues. Les composés de l'invention présentent également un niveau sensiblement élevé de réactivité dans une bande de longueur d'onde étroite, avec une longueur d'onde maximale d'émission de plus ou moins 308 nm.
