There is provided a photobioreactor comprising an upstanding core structure; a plurality of substantially transparent tubes supportable by the core structure; flow means for causing a synthesis mixture to flow through each of the transparent tubes; and withdrawal means for withdrawing a biomass synthesis product from the mixture. The plurality of transparent tubes is helically wound in parallel. There is also provided the use of the photobioreactor in the production of biomass from a synthesis mixture comprising living plant matter together with essential nutrients for growth of the plant matter.

L'invention se rapporte à un photoréacteur comportant une structure centrale verticale; une pluralité de tubes sensiblement transparents susceptibles d'être supportés par ladite structure centrale; un organe d'écoulement conçu pour amener un mélange de synthèse à s'écouler dans chacun des tubes transparents; et un organe d'extraction conçu pour extraire dudit mélange le produit de synthèse de biomasse. La pluralité de tubes transparents est enroulée en parallèle de manière à former une hélice. L'invention se rapporte aussi à l'utilisation d'un tel photoréacteur pour la production de biomasse à partir d'un mélange de synthèse comportant une matière végétale vivante associée à des sels nutritifs essentiels pour la croissance de la matière végétale.
