A photocatalyst which has high catalytic activity, is nontoxic, has a long life, enables visible light to be utilized as it is in a photocatalytic reaction, and is useful especially in hydrogen generation; and a process for producing the catalyst. The catalyst is characterized by containing cadmium sulfide, having a capsular structure, and has platinum deposited thereon. The process comprises bubbling H2S gas into a liquid containing cadmium oxide particles.

L'invention concerne un photocatalyseur à forte activité catalytique, non toxique, à longue durée de vie, permettant d'avoir recours à la lumière visible utilisée comme telle dans une réaction de photocatalyse, et particulièrement utile pour la production d'hydrogène ; ainsi que son procédé de production. Le catalyseur se caractérise par le fait qu'il contient du sulfure de cadmium, qu'il présente une structure capsulaire et qu'il est recouvert d'une couche de platine. Le procédé consiste à faire barboter un gaz H¿2?S dans un liquide contenant des particules d'oxyde de cadmium.
