A photocatalyst compound comprising a silica-based support material having bound thereto a photocatalyst selected from the group consisting of TiO2, WO3 and mixtures thereof, the photocatalyst compound having been derivatized by reaction with an alcohol compound. The process for producing the photocatalyst compound comprises the steps of: (i) contacting a silica-based support material having bound thereto a photocatalyst selected from the group consisting of TiO2, WO3 and mixtures thereof with an alcohol compound to form a slurry; (ii) maintaining the temperature of the slurry above the boiling point of the slurry to produce a substance having a modified surface consisting essentially of an alkyl silicate ester and esterified photocatalyst; and (iii) subjecting the substance to selective oxidation to oxidize the esterified photocatalyst thereby producing a photocatalyst compound having a modified surface consisting essentially of an alkyl silicate ester and a photocatalyst substantially free of ester groups. The photocatalyst compound is useful, inter alia, in the treatment of a fluid containing an organic pollutant.
L'invention concerne un composé photocatalyseur comprenant un matériau de support à base de dioxyde de silicium auquel est lié un photocatalyseur sélectionné parmi du TiO2, du WO3 et des mélanges de ces derniers, le photocatalyseur ayant été dérivé par réaction avec un composé alcool. Le procédé de production de ce photocatalyseur comprend les étapes consistant à:(1) mettre en contact un matériau de support à base de dioxyde de silicium auquel est lié un photocatalyseur sélectionné parmi du TiO2, du WO3 et des mélanges de ces derniers avec un composé alcool pour former une bouillie; (ii) maintenir la température de cette bouillie au-dessus du point d'ébullition de la bouillie pour produire une substance présentant une surface modifiée se composant essentiellement d'un ester de silicate d'alkyle et d'un photocatalyseur estérifié; et (iii) soumettre la substance à une oxydation sélective pour oxyder le photocatalyseur estérifié et produire ainsi un composé photocatalyseur présentant une surface modifiée se composant essentiellement d'un ester de silicate d'alkyle et d'un photocatalyseur sensiblement dépourvu de groupes esters. Le composé photocatalyseur est utile, entre autres, pour traiter un fluide contenant un polluant organique.
