ABSTRACT A photocomposition machine stores a plurality of pre- determined type optically accessible characters with a film for recording selected type characters. A controllable flash oper- ates with the character storage to expose the film with images of selected characters. There is also provided a lens system which is controlled as a function of point size values selected by the operator. The control system recognizes point size changes enter- ed by the operator and determines the direction and number of steps to move the lenses in order to provide a magnification cor- responding to the new point size. The system includes a memory with related input and output devices. The memory stores data representing the selected point size value.
