A photoconductor for electrophotography comprises an electroconductive substrate, a charge generating layer formed on the substrate and a charge transporting layer formed on the charge generating layer. The charge generating layer contains particles of an organic pigment and a binder. The largest value of major axes of the particles is not more than 1000 nm, the smallest value of minor axes of the particles is not less than 10 nm and the ratio of the largest value of major axes to the smallest value of minor axes is not more than 3.
