ABSTRACT An arrangement for determining when a number of photodetectors each storing charge, in response to electro- magnetic radiation impinging thereon, have on the average accumulated enough charge in a current sample period through the photodetectors having a common electrode at which a voltage is applied commonly and, thereafter, at which a monitoring function takes place. The monitoring determined when the voltage on the common electrode has sufficiently decreased in response to the electromagnetic radiation impinging on each photodetector to warrant termination of the taking of the current sample as the average accumulated charge has become as large as is desirable. The arrangement permits determining within the current sample period that the average charge accumulated across the photodetectors in response to impinging electromagnetic radiation thereon has reached as large a value as is desirable without any manipulations of the accumulated charge or delays into later sampling periods such as occurs in the prior art.
