Use of a photosensitizer composition in the manufacture of a medicament for photodynamic therapy and a process for photodynamic therapy are provided along with a photosensitizer composition suitable for the use and the process. The photosensitizer composition comprises at least one photoactive ingredient in a chemically reduced state. According to the use, the photosensitizer composition having at least one photoactive ingredient in a chemically reduced state is provided. The photosensitizer composition is applied to tissue or other substrate such that the at least one photoactive ingredient is at or travels to a location adjacent a target medium and the at least one photoactive ingredient is then altered to a photoactive state. The at least one photoactive ingredient is then exposed to light energy for assisting in inhibiting at least one pathogen at the target medium. The prefered photosensitizer is methylene blue. It is preferably reduced by ascorbic acid.
L'invention porte sur l'utilisation d'une composition photosensibilisante dans la fabrication d'un médicament pour une thérapie photodynamique et sur un procédé pour une thérapie photodynamique conjointement avec une composition photosensibilisante appropriée pour l'utilisation et le procédé. La composition photosensibilisante comprend au moins un ingrédient photoactif dans un état chimiquement réduit. Selon l'utilisation, la composition photosensibilisante ayant au moins un ingrédient photoactif dans un état chimiquement réduit est proposée. La composition photosensibilisante est appliquée à un tissu ou autre substrat de telle sorte que le ou les ingrédients photoactifs se trouvent au niveau de ou se déplacent jusqu'à un emplacement adjacent à un milieu cible et le ou les ingrédients photoactifs étant ensuite modifiés en un état photoactif. Le ou les ingrédients photoactifs sont ensuite exposés à une énergie lumineuse pour aider à inhiber au moins un pathogène au niveau du milieu cible. Le photosensibilisateur préféré est le bleu de méthylène. Il est de préférence réduit par l'acide ascorbique.
