Abstract of Disclosure Photoelectronic light barrier apparatus, used to detect interruption of a beam of light passing from a light trans- mitter to a light receiver incorporating an operational photoelectric converter, is protected against the effects of unwanted light by providing an auxiliary photoelectric converter in the vicinity of the operational converter. The auxiliary converter detects the presence of unwanted light and its output is subtracted with appropriate weighting from that of the operational converter to produce a weighted difference signal. In this way obstruction or interruption of the light barrier is reliably detected up to a specific intensity of the unwanted light. Should the intensity of the unwanted light be even higher the apparatus is biased to the side of safety because the weighted difference signal results in an indication that the light barrier is obstructed.
