A photographic copy cradle to support an object to be photographed. There is a platen to receive the object. A transparent plate is spaced from the platen and is able to contact the object so that the object is retained between the platen and transparent plate. The copy cradle includes a device to urge the object upwardly against the transparent plate. The photographic copy cradle finds particular application in the copying of books and has the advantage that the transparent plate, and thus the page being photographed, is at a constant distance from the camera and the camera will not be required to repositioned or re-focused as the number of pages underlying the page being photographed varies.
