ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An image processing system uses a photographic filter metaphor for control of digital image processing software. An image is manipulated in a series of succes- sive operations which are stored independently. After a series of operations, the original image and each succes- sive operation can be retrieved without reexecuting the series of operations. A user-friendly interface allows a user to select a preprogrammed filter effect or create a custom filter effect from the options presented.
