ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A photocomposing machine is disclosed. The machine includes a character matrix bearing a plurality of charac- ters, character projection means for projecting images of said characters onto a recording surface, character spacing means for spacing said images on the recording surface to form composed lines of characters, a drive motor coupled to drive said character spacing means, size changing means for changing the size of the character images projected from said matrix, and coupling means for selectively coupling and un- coupling said size changing means with said drive motor to operate said size changing means.
