An optically variable security device comprises a photonic crystal which, upon receipt of incident light, generates a first optical effect, and which, when the device is subjected to an external stimulus, generates a second optical effect that is different from the first optical effect. At least one of the first and second optical effects is an optically variable effect observable over a set of directions. The optically variable effect is caused by the light being selectively reflected or transmitted by the crystal.
L'invention concerne un dispositif de sécurité optiquement variable comprenant un cristal photonique qui, lorsqu'il est frappé par une lumière incidente, produit un premier effet optique, et qui, lorsque le dispositif est soumis à un stimulus externe, engendre un second effet optique qui est différent du premier effet optique. Au moins l'un des deux effets optiques est un effet optiquement variable observable dans toute une plage de directions. L'effet optiquement variable est produit par la lumière qui est soit réfléchie, soit transmise par le cristal.
