ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: Disclosed is a photosensitive recording element which can be developed in aqueous solvents and possess a photosensitive recording layer consisting of a) a polymeric binder, b) a photoinitiator and c) at least one additional compatible photopolymerizable polymer. The polymeric binder consists of a polyalkylene oxide/vinyl ester graft polymer which is preferably soluble in water, has been hydrolyzed or partially hydrolyzed and partially esterified or transesterified, and which contains alkylene oxide, grafted alkylene oxide, vinyl alcohol and vinyl ester structural units in certain amounts and ratios. The elastomeric graft copolymers and recording materials produced from them are used for the production of relief plates, in particular flexographic printing plates.
