ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A photovoltaic cell is provided comprising a cadmium telluride film, a barrier layer facing and in intimate contact with one side of said film having a rectifying junction at the interface therebetween. There is also provided a conductive layer facing and in intimate contact with the other side of said film with an ohmic junction at the interface therebetween. The film is cadmium rich at said ohmic junction interface.
