ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A physiological monitoring electrode system for use with an ECG is disclosed. The system includes first and second electrode elements to be attached to a patient; and first electrically conducting means connecting the first electrode element to a first input of the ECG; and second electrically conducting means connecting the second electrode to a second input of the ECG; with a body tissue impedance simulating circuit connecting least one of the first and second conducting means. A third electri- cally conducting means is connected from said body tissue impedance simulating circuit to a third input of the ECG, the body tissue impedance circuit providing an impedance between the third conducting means and at least one of the first and second conducting means to give the appearance that the third input of the ECG is connected to a third electrode on the patient. This permits the first and second electrode elements to provide input information to the ECG from the patient that normally requires the use of a minimum of three separate electrodes and the associated leads.
