Devices and methods are provided for piercing the skin and accessing and collecting physiological sample therein. The subject devices include at least one fluid pathway, wherein at least a substantial portion of the distal end of the at least one fluid pathway is open to the outside environment. One or more subject devices may be integrated into a test strip for determining the concentration of at least one analyte in the sample. Also provided are methods for using the subject devices. The devices and methods are particularly suited for collecting physiological sample and determining glucose concentrations therein and, more particularly, glucose concentrations in blood, blood fractions or interstitial fluid. Also provided are kits that include the devices for use in practicing the subject methods. -27-
