Described herein is a physiologically-balanced, acidic solution. Typically the solution is prepared by a chemical reactions or by the electrolysis of a solution s comprising a mixture of an inorganic salt to form a physiologically balanced solution. This invention also relates to methods for use of the solutions, including a specialized bandage which may be used in combination with the solutions, or optionally with other topically applied materials. A mixture of inorganic salts and, optionally minerals, is used in order to mimic the electrolyte concentration and mixture of body fluid in an isotonic state. The solution typically comprises of one halide salt of lithium, sodium, potassium, calcium, and other cations. Typically the halide is fluoride, chloride, bromide, or iodide, and most typically chloride. A typical electrolyzed solution of the present invention has a pH within the range of about 2 to about 5, an oxidation reduction potential within the range of about +600 mV to about +1200 mV, and hypohalous acid concentration in the range of about 10 ppm to about 200 ppm. The solution has bactericidal, fungicidal, and sporicidal properties. The composition of the invention is nontoxic and has antibacterial properties, and is useful in any application in which antimicrobial properties are desirable.

Cette solution est généralement réalisée par réactions chimiques ou par électrolyse d'une solution constituée par un mélange de sel inorganique, pour obtenir une solution physiologiquement équilibrée. La présente invention porte également sur des procédés pour utiliser ces solutions, comprenant un pansement spécial pouvant être employé en association avec ces solutions ou éventuellement avec d'autres matériaux à application topique. Un mélange de sels inorganiques et, éventuellement de minéraux, sert à simuler la concentration et le mélange électrolytiques d'un fluide corporel dans un état isotonique. La solution comprend généralement un halogénure de lithium, de sodium, de potassium, de calcium, et d'autres cations. L'halogénure est généralement un fluorure, un chlorure, un bromure ou un iodure, et plus souvent un chlorure. Une solution électrolysée selon l'invention a un pH oscillant entre 2 et 5 environ, un potentiel de réduction d'oxydation allant d'environ +600 mV à environ +1200 mV, une concentration d'acide hypohalogéneux dans une fourchette approximative de 10 ppm à 200 ppm. Ladite solution présente des propriétés bactéricides, fongicides et sporicides. La composition de la présente invention, qui n'est pas toxique mais a des propriétés antibactériennes, peut servir dans toute application nécessitant des propriétés antimicrobiennes.
