ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A flexure-suspended, free-rotor gyroscope is disclosed. It includes a drive shaft journalled in a housing and a rotor driven by the drive shaft to spin about a spin axis. The rotor is flexibly supported so that it can tilt about two tilt axes perpendicular to the spin axis. A magnetic circuit disposed at the periphery of the rotor defines an annular air gap. A permanent magnet disposed within the magnetic circuit provides a unidirectional radial magnetic field regularly undulating in magnitude around the air gap. An assembly of discrete coils is supported from the housing for detecting the undulating radial magnetic field when the rotor spins. .
