ABSTRACT A drive mechanism is provided for mechanically driven doors of the type such as garage doors which are driven by a motor and guided at sides thereof by guiderails mounted to a frame defining a door opening and which must be pivoted at least slightly before being vertically raised, wherein the motor drives a drive means which displaces vertically next to a side of the door. The drive mechanism comprises a pick-up means including an arm means connected to the drive means for vertical displacement therewith and a bracket means mounted to the door. The bracket means includes an inclined portion extending upwards and away from the door. The arm means includes a lost- motion means which is adapted to engage a pivot means connected to the door and forming a pivot therefor The arm means includes a drive member abutting a lower part of the inclined portion of the bracket means when the door is in its closed position and adapted to move upwards when the door is opened. Therefore, actuation of the motor to open the door causes an upwards displacement of the arm means and thus of the drive member which moves upwards along the inclined portion for causing the door to pivot about its pivot means with the lost- motion means of the arm means preventing the pivot means of the door from raising with the arm means, wherein after an initial upwards displacement of the arm means corresponding to the lost-motion means, the arm means drives upwards the pivot means and thus the door which has an oblique orientation.
