ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A pickup actuator including a supporting device for supporting a driven member in all the coordinate axis directions of three coordinate axes perpendicular to one another having a support member (2) formed of viscoelastic material for supporting the driven member (1) on a frame (3). The support member (2) is tensioned and connected between the driven member (1) and the frame (3) and has one end (33, 34) affixed to the driven member (1) disposed in a plane perpendicular to an arbitrarily selected one coordinate axis (z-axis) of the three coordinate axis directions and the other end (31, 32) affixed to the frame (3) disposed in a plane perpendicular to the one coordinate axis. The pickup actuator also includes a device for generating lines of magnetic force of two directions perpendicular to each other, a first coil and a second coil (6, 13 and 7, 14) secured to the driven member and having a first path of current and a second path of current respectively disposed in one of the magnetic lines of force perpendicular to each other and perpendicular to each other in a plane perpendicular to the magnetic line of force, a third coil (15) secured to the driven member and having a third path of current disposed in the other line of magnetic force and parallel to one of the first path of current and the second path of current in a plane perpendicular to the other line of magnetic force, and a control for effecting selective control of a current passed to the first to the third coils, whereby the pickup holder can be independently driven for movement in three axis directions perpendicular to one another.
