Abstract A spinning reel has a sequential line brak- ing--pickup pin retracting assembly including a reel body having a deck plate for supporting the operative parts of the reel. A front cover and a rear cover interfit to trap and secure the reel body therein. A center shaft supports a spinner head in the front cover with the shaft and spinner head being urged rearwardly relative to the rear cover. A thumb button may be depressed to urge the center shaft and spinner head forward. A novel pickup pin assembly is mounted in the spinner head and has a rotatable means on an arm contacting a mating cam on a fixed hub for extending the pickup pin when required. Interfitting stop means are provided between the arm and the spinner head for supporting the pickup pin free of contact with the spinner head.
