In a processing circuit employed in a picture processing apparatus, pixel values of pixels composing a picture are each separated into a surface-reflected light. component and a body-reflected light component on the basis of a Dichromatic Reflection Model. Then, the surface-reflected light component or the body-reflected light component is expressed by using a Phong Illumination Model or a Lambertian Reflection Model respectively. The surface-reflected light component or the body-reflected light component is then modified. Subsequently, each pixel value is changed on the basis of the modified surface-reflected light component or the modified body reflected light component. As a result, the picture processing apparatus allows the user to change the color of a picture displaying a 3-dimensional substance to a natural picture with ease.
