ABSTRACT Objects including jewellery, for example watch-cases, having vari- ously coloured surface areas formed by hard materials of different composi- tions. The hard materials are mainly carbides, carbo-nitrides, nitrides, silicides or borides of metals of groups III to VI of the periodic system. The coloured objects of this invention are more scratch and abrasion-proof than known objects produced by coating a base metal with a metal such as titanium and oxidizing in zones under different conditions.
