A pigment grinding resin represented by the formula: Image wherein, Ep is a residue of an epoxy resin having an epoxy equivalent of 150 to 2000 and a hydroxyl group equivalent of 300 to 4000; R1 and R2 represent a different group each other and respectively selected from the group consisting of hydroxymethyl, 2-hydroxyethyl, 2-hydroxypropyl, 3- hydroxypropyl, 4-hydroxybutyl and a group of the formula - CH2CH(OH)CH2R3 (wherein, R3 is a hydroxyl group or a hydroxyalkyl group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms); R4 is a group selected from the group consisting of a hydrogen atom and alkyl, hydroxyalkyl and alkylamide groups having 1 to 5 carbon atoms; m is a numerical value of 0.1 to 2.0; A is a residue of diisocyanate selected from the group consisting of aliphatic, alicyclic and aromatic diisocyanates having 4 to 20 carbon atoms; B is a residue of a compound selected from the group consisting of alcohol, amine, carboxylic acid, oxime and caprolactam having 1 to 20 carbon atoms; and n is a numerical value of 0.1 to 2Ø A pigment grinding resin of the present invention has excellent dispersibility. This invention provides a pigment grinding resin and a pigment paste capable of affording a coated film having good appearance and corrosion resistance.
