A hand held pill bottle opener for lift top pill bottles comprised of an rigid elongated lever member and an end including a tongue disposed in the end. The tongue disposed within said end of the lever member is positioned normal-to-parallel to the end extending from beneath the end and terminates in a fork which can be positioned flush against the thumb rest of the lid of a pill bottle and the tines of the fork rest snugly against either side of the thumb rest of the lid of the pill bottle and the end of the lever member is resting on top of the lid of the pill bottle. If an upward force is then applied to the lever member the end of the lever member and the tongue firmly grasp the lid of the pill bottle by the thumb rest and the top of the lid to easily force the lid off the pill bottle.
