A pilot light assembly includes an elongate tubular housing having a first end and a second end. A fuel gas header is positioned at the first end of the housing. A fuel gas feed tube extends through the housing from the fuel gas header at the first end to the second end. An igniter probe extends through the housing from the first end to the second end. A female receptacle is provided at the first end of the housing. The female receptacle has a first set of electrical connectors wired to the igniter probe. A discrete battery powered electrical igniter is provided which is capable of generating an ignition spark. The electrical igniter has a male adapter with a second set of electrical connectors. The male adapter is inserted into the female receptacle and an ignition spark generated by the electrical igniter is transmitted via the female receptacle to the igniter probe.
