Abstract A known pipe branch fitting has a member engaging the pipe, and a fitting part which can be moved inward to compress a gasket against the pipe and has an inner end portion locating in a hole in the pipe. In this invention, the gasket in uncompressed condition has a lower surface curved to conform with the pipe, and a flat upper surface. The fitting part is screw-threaded into the embracement member and can be tightened up using a wrench or other tool. The movement of the upper end of the fitting part indicates whether the inner end portion is properly located in the hole in the pipe or whether it is ledging on the pipe wall.
