PIPE JOINT LOCKING DEVICE Abstract A pipe joint including a tubular box 18, a tubular pin 12 engaged in the tubular box 18 and locking means retaining the tubular box 18 and the tubular pin 12 in interengagement to allow the transmission of torque through the pipe joint while maintaining the mechanical and pressure integrity of the pipe joint. The tubular box 18 includes an externally threaded end portion 22 which is also formed with an internal sealing thread 16 for engaging a complementary thread 14 on the tubular pin 12 and a conically tapered surface 20 extending outwardly from the sealing thread 16. The locking means includes an annular ferrule 24 engageable intermediate the conically tapered surface 20 of the tubular box end portion and the outer circumferential surface of the tubular pin 12 and a ferrule setting nut 30 having an internal screw thread 32 engageable with the external threaded end portion 22 of the tubular box 18. The ferrule setting nut 30 has a radially inward projection 34 contacting an end surface on the ferrule 24 whereby threaded engagement between the ferrule setting nut 30 and the external thread 27 of the tubular box 18 causes the ferrule 24 to wedge into frictional surface engagement with the tubular box 18 and the tubular pin 12.
